..."More than 30 individuals, including artists Amy Malbeuf and Tiffany Shaw-Collinge, gathered in the snow and sun with Elders Jerry and Jo Ann Saddleback for a pipe ceremony and celebration. Our Elders shared teachings, stories, songs, and prayers with attendees as well as traditional food – salmon, corn, and berries. The event centered the attendees’ thoughts on the park and its project’s good intentions. It seemed, as the ceremony progressed, that the sounds of urban life faded, and the sounds of nature – woodpeckers, crows, songbirds, and wind – took over.
At the end, contemplation was succeeded by celebration as people enjoyed a traditional fiddle performance by Brianna Lizotte, chatted, snacked, explored the site, and enjoyed each other’s company and the sunshine." Full article here.
